Ecological Museum of Muynak region

Ecological Museum of Muynak region was established in 1984 in the Uchsay port village. In 1998 it was moved to the Community Centre of Muynak District. Its exhibits, collected in the 1980s by Doctor O. Eserkepov, describe the story of the Aral Sea and Muynak. They include national costumes, beautiful vintage jewellery, household items, boats, fishing equipment, stuffed animals and birds, as well as historical photographs.

Muynak Museum is also famous for its unique collection of paintings that date back to the 1960s and 1970s. The collection includes beautiful paintings by Rafael Matevosyan and Faim Madgazin. They are often called the “chroniclers of the Aral Sea,” since their works have both historical and artistic value that tell us about the rare beauty of this region and the Aral Sea itself. Moreover, they depict how the blue Aral Sea transformed into a desert.
