The globally renowned documentary series by the British company SandStone Global, "Treasures of the World," has won the hearts of viewers in over 120 countries. The series generates widespread interest in both national and international media and has a dedicated following on social media. In 2023, the global reach of "Treasures of the World" reached an astounding 3.9 billion people!
An award-winning historian and broadcaster, Professor Bettany Hughes masterfully introduces viewers to the historical and cultural landmarks of Greece, Malta, Gibraltar, Arabia, Jordan, Cyprus, the Mediterranean, Eastern and Western Turkey, Istanbul, Albania, Azerbaijan, Estonia, Bulgaria, India, Oman, and Georgia. The recognition of the series is so immense that many countries where it has already aired have invited the production team to continue working on new films.
In collaboration with Uzbekistan, the company has begun work on a new project titled "Treasures of Uzbekistan," which kicked off in the city of Nukus. Bethany Hughes embarks on an exciting journey to the lower reaches of the Amu Darya River, venturing into the remote Karakalpakstan in the northwest of the country. This mysterious land, home to the vast Kyzylkum Desert, salt flats, and the Aral Sea, holds a rich history of humanity.
During her journey, Bettany explores the unique necropolis of Mizdakhkan and the majestic Zoroastrian Tower of Silence Shylpyk, immersing herself in an atmosphere of ancient secrets and legends. She meets locals and experts in the fields of history, archaeology, and art, revealing the richness and diversity of Uzbekistan’s unique heritage.
The capital of Karakalpakstan, Nukus, amazes Bettany as this region unexpectedly became a center of global art in the 20th century. The artist and art connoisseur Igor Savitsky, taking advantage of Nukus's remoteness from the centers of Soviet power, gathered and preserved a unique collection of forbidden avant-garde art created by talented artists who faced persecution from Stalinist authorities. This collection has become a significant heritage of Central Asia.
A segment of the film is dedicated to the Golden Ring of Khorezm. In the wild expanses of the Kyzylkum Desert, Bettany visits some of the 50 Khorezmian fortresses built between the 6th and 4th centuries BC.
Among the most impressive fortresses are Toprak-Kala and Ayaz-Kala, where Bettany spent a night in a yurt, surrounded by the vast desert, ancient fortress ruins, and a breathtaking starry sky.
The film will introduce viewers to the "treasures" of Uzbekistan in an exciting one-hour broadcast that will be aired in the UK and around the world. Active promotion across various social media platforms will allow a wide audience to experience the magnificence of Uzbekistan and feel the charm of its rich heritage.
