In accordance with Presidential Decree No. UP-87 of the Republic of Uzbekistan “On Measures to Enhance the Role and Significance of Tourism in the Economy by Significantly Increasing Tourist Flows and Rapidly Expanding the Volume of Tourism Services in 2025–2026”, the creation of joint cross-border tourism routes has been prioritized. One such initiative involves the development of a tourist ring route along the “Turkmenistan – Khorezm – Karakalpakstan – Kazakhstan” corridor.
As part of the implementation of this decree, a new cross-border tourist route has been developed, encompassing four regions and offering a rich cultural and educational experience for travelers.
The State Committee for Tourism, in collaboration with relevant organizations and private sector representatives, has designed a route that combines travel convenience with deep cultural immersion. The itinerary offers tourists the opportunity to engage in the following types of tourism:
Gastronomic tourism – tasting traditional dishes from each country;
Ecotourism – enjoying unique natural landscapes and eco-friendly experiences;
Ethnographic tourism – exploring local customs, traditions, and handicrafts;
Pilgrimage tourism – visiting sacred sites and spiritual-historical monuments.
The route features over 15 sites recognized as UNESCO World Heritage Sites, as well as numerous nationally and regionally significant landmarks, including:
In Turkmenistan: Ancient Merv, Darvaza Gas Crater, Kunya-Urgench;
In Khorezm (Uzbekistan): Itchan-Kala, Dishan-Kala;
In Karakalpakstan (Uzbekistan): Savitsky Museum, Kyzyl-Kala, Chilpyk-Kala, the pilgrimage site of Sultan Uvays Bobo, Toprak-Kala, Ayaz-Kala;
In Kazakhstan: Torysh Valley, Bozzhira Valley, Shakpak-Ata Mausoleum, Sherkala Mountain.
This route is not only an exciting adventure for thrill-seekers but also a valuable journey for those interested in the culture, history, art, and nature of Central Asia.
Tourists and tour operators are encouraged to organize both individual and group trips along the “Turkmenistan – Khorezm – Karakalpakstan – Kazakhstan” route, promising unique discoveries and unforgettable experiences.
