On September 14, the International Eco-Marathon "Barsakelmes" will start in Karakalpakstan along the previously inaccessible snow-white bottom of Lake Barsakelmes, which is over 2 million years old.
About 500 participants from 20 countries will take part in the marathon. Among them, along with professional athletes, are representatives of the diplomatic corps, international organizations and environmental activists.
The goal of the event is to attract international attention to the environmental problems of the Aral region and the rational use of water resources.
The program of the two-day event includes accommodation in a yurt camp, a music program, an ethno show, an excursion to the Barsakelmes salt marsh, a 42 km marathon, a 21 km half marathon, 5 and 10 km runs.
